Question:

2001 Mercury Cougar Cold Air Intake?

I have an 01 Cougar and was thinking about getting a cold air intake put in. Should I do this? Will it change the sound like I‘m hoping?

Answer:

Make certain you construct some style of cold air field round your air filter so it doesnt ingest scorching enginOKorder air. So as to be counter productive. Use sheetmetal and pop rivets with suitable instruments and measurements. Use cardboard bins to build a mock-up design so you could hint it onto sheetmetal and but/bend it up. The exhaust will most often now not make that much of a change. The consumption will make more of a change than the exhaust. You don't have got to get your eu re-chipped on your mods. Is the exhaust particularly dual or does it just have two pointers from a single muffler? I might say you are going to acquire round 7-12 HP and your gasoline mileage will slightly expand considering that of the reduced pumping effort of the engine.
Most after market cold air intakes on cars this new are not an improvement! If you want to improve the intake system, install a scoop and install duct work that uses the current (factory) cold air intake. I use a part found in some stores that is designed to be a pick up for a vacuum cleaner and some off the shelf PVC piping to fashion mine. True, there are no bragging rights to be gleaned by opening the hood up to show off the shiny parts. But it works a little better (at speed because it is a passive forced induction) and it costs less. To get an idea of what I am talking about check out the cold air intakes the police use on factory cars. They are seldom noticed and that is one thing I like about hidden modifications. It leaves the competition scratching their heads!
It's a mercury cougar. Putting an intake on is like polishing a turd. Total waste of time and money. Even if it does change the sound a little, it still won't sound good. Save your money for a better car.
