Why go through all that trouble, unless you are looking for a specific gear ratioGM only used two different rear ends in the 3/4 ton truck and both are 8 lugThe vintells me that it is to new to be a 6 lugThe visible difference between the 2, is one has an external axle flange which is full floating and the axle has to be removed to remove the brake drumThis is a Dana, which is most likely a Dana 40The other style has the drum that slides over the end of the axle and the wheel studsThis should be a GM rear endIf I remember correctly, the Dana 40 has 6 axle flange bolts and the Dana 60 has 8Most Dana 60 rear ends were put in 1 ton utility trucks, ie.Wreckers, Ambulances, and crane trucksHope this helpsChristopher
