I have a 98 mustang 3.1 liter v6 and 3rd and 4th gear went out. Is there any other vehicle transmission that will fit in the mustang?I went to the junk yard but theres no 98 mustang transmissions.So what other vehicle has the same size transmission that i could switch it out with?
I believe you mean you have a 3.8 engine. If you are referring to an automatic transmission, then 1998 Mustang 3.8 4R70W is the only one that fits according to the interchange all the salvage yards use. A competent transmission shop could probably swap the electrical parts to make a different year transmission work for you but there's no hard information out there that I know like you can change this and that to make it work. If by chance your car instead has a five speed manual, a T5 transmission from any 1994-98 Mustang 3.8 will swap right in.
First you need to determine which tranny you have. Just about any tranny of the same type and around the same year that fits a 3.8 will work. There were some T-birds built with the 3.8 V-6 If it is the same tranny it will work.
