Question:

99 ford taurus transmission problem?

My 99 ford taurus is having some transmission problems, the car starts perfectly but it will not move in Drive. The reverse is fine, there are no leaks coming from anywhere on the car, and I‘ve checked the transmission lines to see if any were worn or disconnected. The level of tranny fluid is ok. Please Help!

Answer:

you definetely have an internal transmission problem most likely with your forward clutch or a broken sun gear as long as long as there is not much metal contamination the car and trans are saveable an overhaul at a dealer is around 17-18 hours labor around 90 bucks an hour. to replace with a genuine ford reman trans would cost upwards of $2000 for the part and 9-10hrs labor. Either way it will be an expensive repair. You might get a better cost at an aftermarket repair shop but you get what you pay for.
Your brake pads are worn beyond the allowed limits. Have them replaced immediately.
so what your saying is you have freddy flintstone brakes lol and i agree with all here.
Upon checking the level of the tranny fluid, what was its color? If its brown or dull looking, then more and likely the fuid has been overheated, and burnt. Also, the smell of the fluid is a tell tale sign that the tranny is burnt up. How many miles are on your car, will also point to possibly needing a transmission being replaced. Hope these help some.
first and reverse use the same clutch pack in the transmission. So this means that the transmission is not shifting into drive. this is usually caused by a blockage in the valve body or a sticking shift solenoid. can also be caused by shift linkage being out of adjustment. try shifting into each of the drives gears. if nothing happens it is probably not a linkage problem. next would be service transmission (fluid filter and adjust). when you have the service performed they should be able to tell you if it appears to have to much wear and needs rebuilt.
