Question:

A carpet ?

how often do u buy new carpet for ur house?my husband has never got new capet in this house since he has lived here. and the guy lived here before had the same carpet. I think it is a time for some new carpet. My husband lived here 5 years so far. so who know how long the guy before us had this carpet. how do i get my husband to buy new carpet? also we own the house

Answer:

I usually replace carpet if I detect wear and tear, the warranty has expired, excessive staining not covered by warranty or there are traffic compression paths. In my rentals, I tend to replace the carpet after each tenant because most are long term renters. When I purchase property that has been occupied previously, I always replace the carpet because I just don't know what happened on it before and how it was maintained. Being the owner of the home, it behooves you to purchase new carpet to add to the value of your home and to be covered by warranty.
For most households, five years is pushing it. Lighter colored carpets and those with house pets usually go faster. Normal maintenance calls for thorough vacumning 1-2 times per WEEK along with bags/filters regularly replaced and then annually steam cleaned. People also fail to realize the health issues carpets can harbor, over time the culprit of allergies sinus irritation. One of the easiest things to show your pride of ownership is to change the carpet... it can be very inexpensive if you shop for remnants at a good local carpet store/outlet; avg $100-$200/room or $15/sq yard with new pad install. Take your room measurements, see what you can find (bring some sample clippings home to hubby if he's not interested)...you'll know for sure that it's time!
