Question:

Apartment carpet issue?

Hello, My dog chewed my carpet in my apartment in a few places. I dont think it needs completely replaced but I want to pass the inspection when I move. It is quite obvious in a couple of places and we just dont want to be held liable for whole apartment replacement. Can someone give me an idea how to make it passable again?

Answer:

I like the idea of taking it from a closet. Just want to forewarn you that the pet deposit is likely not going to be returned to you. And, if it were my carpet your pet ruined/damaged, I'd likely ask for it to be replaced- same condition as when you moved in- with normal wear and tear. I think puppy is going to cost you a bit for this chewing.
Take a piece from the back of the closet and patch.
Take a carpet cutter, cut the carpet up, and replace it with matching carpet. They make specific cutters for different kinds of damage, I use one that is round and like a cookie cutter for replacing really bad spots in the carpet. It works well with shag, but I doubt it will work if it is not shag-carpet. I would avoid pulling carpet from the closet, as they WILL check the whole apartment to get as much from you as they can. Honesty is the best policy, the deposit is put in place to protect you and the land lord. Talk to your land lord, and discuss it. Record all conversations with the land lord, if he make's a mistake, you can use it to your full advantage.
