I have a 1997 jetta and am building a custom cold air intake system. I was wondering if anyone knows if it is ok to take the top part of the cold air box off. Also does anyone know any websites that could show me pics of this . Thank you
IF YOU HAVE A LITTLE MONEY YOU SHOULD GET A HI FLOW CAT AND IT SHOULD STILL PASS THE SMOG TEST. BUT YOU WOULD HAVE LESS BACK PRESSURE AND MIGHT MURDER YOUR TORQUE ALL FOR SOUND.
if i replace the muffler with a universal muffler and take the resonator off and straight pipe it from the new muffler to the back of the car, will it mess up the car at all? The universal muffler changes the size of the pipe from normal to a 6 pipe.
Thats a bad idea. The reason for the Top of the box is because the hottest air in your engine compartment will be at the. guess where top! of the engine compartment. The lid is there on your cold air intake to keep it sucking cold air. If you'd like to gaurentee that you've wasted $200+ go ahead and take it off because obviously you know more about air flow then the people who design test, redesign and manufacture and make millions off these things do. Right?
