Tell your instructor to refer to his or her's two-post lift manufacturer's maintenance and operating manual. How can you do any different than the equipment manufacturer specifies? The manufacturer employs the design engineers that designed the equipment and tell you how to use it correctly. No other reference authority is legitimate in my opinion once the equipment has been approved by the Government for the uses it's intended for.
