Question:

Acrylic paints?

I'm a freshman in college and the profs are trying to find a good technique that works for a thinner paint or even a cheap paint that works well

Answer:

i thought the question asked acrylic pants? which is an entirely different subject involving the removal of hair etc. but i suggest just going to a supermarket. they usually have vary cheep paint that works fine. but if you want a quality paint dont go there. good luck with the pants.
Acrylic dries quite fast, & can be used w/water or mediums. My ex-husband (we had adjoining studios) dragged me kicking & screaming to at least TRY acrylics--I was a dedicated oil painter--& now I'd use nothing else. You can make beautiful glazes with acrylics & medium. Watercolour is a challange, gouache crippling--I've done it all. Acrylic is also tough & doesn't require the delicate handling of oils. You might start w/the less expensive brands, & perhaps only the primary colours. Don't skimp on brushes! A cheap brush just won't cooperate with you, & wears out easily, so that in the long run, replacement is more costly. Choose a few basic shapes to start. Also remember that teeny brushes can sometimes be very useful for detail, if that's what your're into--but large brushes teach you freedom, & dexterity.
Do you want paint or a technique to use with cheap paint? Try Apple Barrel paint from Walmart--it's awful paint!! LOL!! Very thin, very little pigment--but incredibly cheap!
poster paint for the little kids is cheaper than the regular acrylic paints. they also comes in a bigger bottle rather than a tiny tube. it's pretty watery, and you can definitely thin it down even more with water.
Go to the hardware stores and buy the latex paint at the end of the gondola for $3/gallon...the paint that customers rejected after it was mixed.
