Question:

Adding insulation to attic?

I already have blown insulation from when then home was build in 1994 however, I want to add some moreMy question is, in order to add more insulation does it again have to be blown? Or is there an alternate way of adding? I don't have a blower. Thanks,Brad

I'm 20 years old and the oldest of 8 childrenI LOVE ITMum does a fantastic job and said she wouldn't have it any other wayShe says having 3 children or less is hardBecause they are usually pretty close together and you find yourself with these 3 little helpless people causing lotsa work! But keep going, and then suddenly your 7 year old can look after the 3 year old while you have a shower, and hold their hand to stop them running away in the supermarketMind you, when I was little, Mum made all 4 (at the time) of us hold on the the sides of the shopping trolley, and not let goIt's all about trainingIf you train them properly your setMum never does dishes anymoreHasn't done them for 8 years I don't think (well, ok - couple of times a year :P)We all have our roster in our headsEach child knows who's got to take down and fold the laundry etcAlso, we DON'T have a big incomeBut we don't waste money either! We love an op-shop bargin, but never dress daggyWe don't buy expensive cereals on urge, but we have them when they are on special alternating with other yummy cheaper breakfasts etc (weetbix with homemade yogurt)The DISADVANTAGE of being an only child, or one of twoWhat happens when you're happily married with a lovely 18 year old daugher/son and suddenly you get the newsTheir car got hit head onThat's itChildlessIt's too late in life to have another babyOne of our best friends had 2 beautiful teenage daughters and one died in a motorbike accidentNow there is only one sisterAloneSadBring life into the worldIt's what your body was made for! :)
The nylon will help prevent excess wear at the wear points (cuffs, elbows)It will also help the jacket to hold its shape through the hand-washing-lay-flat-to-dry processAn additional advantage to nylon is that it is soft and should increase the softness factor of the jacket without diminishing the warmness factor of the wool Personally, I'd use the Little Big WoolWhile I have no experience with this particular yarn, I have never had a bad experience with a Rowan yarn.
no it does not have to be blown inYou can lay in the roll type over the existing insulationIt's probably best if you lay it down perpendicular to the floor joistsIf you have plans on doing the roof i would lay those on first ( I'm assuming you have no floor in the attic, you can drag a piece of plywood along with you while you work )A respirator of some type and gloves are a must.
If you are looking for a natural replacement for a synthetic yarn, try bambooIt stretches like wool, insulates like wool breathes just fineIt is more expensive, for now, than most alternatives but, if you don't want to use wool, this stuff is greatI have used bamboo on several projects I have sold and I have gotten nothing but rave reviews on the wear feel of the bamboo.
