Question:

Alarm system problems?

My wife and I bought a house about a year and a half ago, and it had an alarm system already installed, but it wasn't being monitored. After about a year, it started beeping, probably because of a low battery, but we could never get it to stop. We had had enough and I recently cut the wires to the main control panel, and now when we turn on our living room light, it blinks on and off instead of staying on. It must be related to the alarm. How can I bypass the alarm altogether and just have our light stay on in the living room? Thanks for the help

Answer:

12 gage used for most 120 volt sources.
That sounds like an excellent plan, good to know there is still some real christmas spirit out there.
Use a 12 wire since it is larger than a 14. The important thing to remember though is when connecting it to a cold water pipe you must be upstream of any fittings. The pipe dope on fittings acts as an insulator. You should make this connection on the street side of your shut-off valve at the house. Possibly simpler would be to drive in your own ground rod close to the TV and connect to that.
YOUR OUTLETS SHOULD ALREADY BE GROUNDED .IF THEY ARE 3 PRONGED.IF NOT RUN THE TV THREW A POWER STRIP!
