Question:

Americans- what would you imagine a typical British home to be like?

E.g. size, location, rooms etc.

Answer:

It would have a butler and a large dining room table. The mother and father sit on each end about 30 feet apart, and a meal of several courses follow. There's always an upstairs with a grand staircase and a chandelier. Everyone reads a book after dinner.
Without toothbrushes.... xP The British speak all..I don't know the word, eloquently, pompously, like with high meaning, so I've always imagined that they all have really fancy homes.
I would think not a look of ranch style, but all in all probably very similar to the US in size and such Bath, Kitchen/Dining (or seperated), Living/study, bedroom(s) family size, may/maynot have a garage. 1 or less acre lot. From 900 to 2000 sq foot living space 50% chance of having garage and garden shed.
In movies British homes are always small and old fashioned. But then again, it's just movies.
I usually think of British homes to be much like the ones in America but perhaps often somewhat smaller. I understand that those Agga cookers (a kind of stove) are also pretty common in the kitchens there. The way I understand those, they remain on 24/7 and 365 days a year which is unusual by American standards and practically unknown here . I've noticed from visiting there that the British take a lot of pride in the appearance of their houses, yards, and home gardens. From what I've seen, real estate prices in England are very high. .
