Question:

Any special precautions/care to take with ceramic rings?

I purchased a black ceramic ring for men. It‘s just a band and has a diamond in the center surrounded by a bit of silver plating. Is there any special care or things to avoid when wearing ceramic rings? Is it bad to get them wet?He works as a chef so he‘s always washing his hands and placing his hands near heat, so I‘m wondering if it‘s ok for him to wear it at work or should he not?

Answer:

Did you ask the people who sold it to you? That would be your best bet to find out specifics about care and use of the ring. Sure they may break, but no material is perfect, and remember that the ring is just the symbol and symbols can be replaced at any time. So if you love that ring, just love it knowing that it might not make it over the long haul.
No. Ceramic rings are very strong, much stronger than metal alloys. Most modern bullet proof vests are made out of ceramic, so they are quite strong. They can be more brittle than alloy rings, but not enough to be concerned about. Most ceramic rings are actually either tungsten carbide or zirconium carbide. For the other responders, ceramic is not synonymous with pottery. Ceramic is a term for any inorganic non metallic solid prepared with heat.
I hope you' re not already married. Please don't do this. Ceramic breaks, chips, and get scratches on the surface. I'd bet heavily that if your marriage is a good one, the ring won't last as long. It's a mystery to me why anyone thought this was a good idea - that, and tungsten which also shatters. They cannot be resized, and when they are broken, they're gone. Please, please just find a pretty gold band that will endure, and can be adjusted when he is older. We all change with age, and so should your rings.
