you dont want it to pass through him you want it to throw it up.the yarn can get twisted around his intestines.put salt in the back of his throte this will cause him to gag and vomit.it needs to come out the way it went in.
If you know the symptoms then keep a close eye on your cat, the moment you think something is wrong, get him to the vetMake sure the yarn isn't wrapped around his tongue, if it is don't pull itYarn sometimes has a way of causing major problems in the digestive tract, I know, my cat swallowed sewing thread and $563.00 later, after a difficult surgery, she was in good shapeNow you won't find any thread or yarn of any kind in my house.
Have you spoken with your vet about this? I guess the reason I'm curious is because I would have suspected that the vet would have advised you in regards to the food questionEdit: Based on your response above the most dangerous thing you can do is wait for the yarn to passThe deeper it gets into the cats digestive tract the more chances there are that it will wrap in the cats intestines or other vital organs and a vet will not be able to remove itAnd what ever you do.DO NOT attempt to pull the string yourself if you see it emerge in the cats stool, again, it could be wrapped around the cats intestines and your actions will kill the catPlease take it to a vet for proper treatment.
