Question:

Are electric ball bearings the same as ball bearings?

I am going to purchase some on amazon. What is the difference between the two? Please explain in detail.

Answer:

There are several things you could be referring to and a cite would have clarified the issue. There are several types of bearings that are used for any type of rotating shaft. These can include sleeve bearings, ball bearings, roller bearings and some very high tech magnetic bearings. The magnetic bearings will usually be electromagnetics and are used for some high speed flywheels contained within a vacuum. There are also bearings marketed specifically for electric motors as electric motor bearings. They are not electric bearings but likely sleeve, roller or ball bearings made for electric motors. If English were a second language it may be more clear to see this as electric-motor bearings and not electric motor-bearings. Amazon returns items under the search term electric bearings and this might include bearings made by the General Electric corporation or bearings of various types made for electric motors.
I thought you were talking about ball bearing hinges. I think I am incorrect though. If so electric ball bearing hinges are much more.
