No need to post the entire article, a link will do. Dr. Mitra is not crackpot. He is serious astrophysist. He works at a real atomic research lab. There are about 2000 hits his name in Yahoo going back into the 1990s. He met with Hawking in 2001 and has put forward many published papers in peer-reviewed journals on the formation of blackholes and electromagnetic fields in blackhole candidates. His basic premise appears to be that there can not be a distinct event horizon on a blackhole. He describes it as a 'shrinking astroball'. He has given a proof (2000, Foundations of Physics Letters) as to why he feels this way. In 2002, a few scientists agreed with him. In 2004, Hawkings also agreed with him.
