Question:

Are exhaust systems universal?

I was wondering, are all exhausts universal or do you have to get one made for your specific car and model? Also how much hp do you gain from a new exhaust? What are the best brands?

Answer:

you can throw on any exhaust that fits, as long as you can hook back up the sensors or throw a dummy sensor on them. but for exhaust headers( the beginning of the exhaust that connects to your engine) no, those have to be fitted and made for your car. if you were to buy an entire exhaust system for a certain car, then it would come with headers, pipes, cat converters, etc. but you can gut out the exhaust pipes of a car, change them and weld/attach them back to the headers with any other exhaust you want.
For motorcycles, they are definitely model-specific. For cars, you would have to ask in the appropriate section of Y!A.
i think so yeah and i think they are free.
How the head pipe attaches to the exhaust port of the head varies by make and even model.
