Question:

Are Kirby vacuum cleaners really worth two thousand dollars?

I just bought a Kirby vacuum cleaner and I was wondering if they are really that good or did I just get ripped off for 2 grand ?

Answer:

It sounds really expensive. I only know of one person who had a Kirby and she thought it was great. But, she was often getting it repaired by an expensive Kirby repairer too. I've tried lots of vacuum cleaners over the years, until 5 years ago when I got a Henry. I'd recommend them to anyone. The suction is brilliant, and I'm pretty hard to please, and they're very well built. No fiddly bits of brittle plastic anywhere. They're tough, hard-wearing and do the job. I'd say that Henry vacuum cleaners are the best, and they're under ?100 too. Seems to be a general opinion among Henry vacuum owners e.g.
We bought a used '94 Kirby in 1996. We paid $400. for it. I like the powerful suction, but it also comes with drawbacks. The following are my opinions about this Kirby: 1. I don't like the cost of replacing the filters (they're about $8. a bag and only have 3 bags in a package. 2. It's not easy to change from vacuum to using the hose. 3. It's kind of heavy and bulky and doesn't maneuver easily. In my opinion, it's not worth it. You can purchase a bagless Dyson for around $500. and they work great. Does the $1800. price include all of the attachments? Do you need all those attachments? Are all the bells whistles worth $1800.?
I purchased a Kirby Generation 3 vacuum twenty years ago. It has never broken down or malfunctioned or needed service of any kind. It works as well as the day I bought it and I use the wood floor buffer, the upholstery cleaner and the rug cleaner features, too. I have wood floors throughout my home with hand hooked area rugs here and there. This vacuum does a great job. I paid just under 1100 in 1989. All of my friends have since gone through several vacuums in 20 years, some spending over what I paid for just one vacuum. So, in that regard, yes, it is worth it because I still have my Kirby and it's showing no signs of loosing air. The only thing I hate about vacuums is the way it is spelled!!
they are a good machine, that I believe will last a long long time. Weather they are worth the 2G I don't know. Thats a lot of money. I purchased one a few years ago. When recently they came by wanting to demonstrate one, I let them in to demonstrate, when it came time to make the sale, of course I didn't buy since I already have one, and they started dropping the price, supposedly because I was an owner already. I think they eventuallly offered to sell me a new one for a little over 1100. So I guess in that sense you got ripped
Of course they're not (in my opinion). They're just really good. The difference in value for the $1,200 over the competition seems a bit stiff. Did you get a cooling-off period?
