Question:

Are quartz crystals safe for aquariums?

I bought some quartz for my fossil and mineral collection, when I got this crazy notion that they might look cool in my aquariums. I have a tank with tetras, and one with a betta at the moment. Will they be safe to add? They are a little sharp, which is also a concern.

Answer:

What kind of quartz? white quartz? rose quartz? dyed quartz? Get the Lapidary Journal or Rock Gems and look in the ads for Liquid quartz order that. If it's coloured U have to ddye the liquid using a special dye. Alternatively U can find the maker of top of quartztop counter.. write or phone the maker and he/she will be able tell U how to fix it. If U have clear quartz on it then all U need to do is fill in the chip with liquid resin this repair won't be noticed by any that don't have a keen eye. now a chip size indicates small... if it were a chunk then resin repair won't work! U can always contact Shel Buzzy and ask him how to repair it! Or just contact a good Countertop repair person from the phonebook ask them!
