Question:

Are the ceramic brakes really worth it?

I know it never fades but most drivers don‘t drive their porsches real hard so the regular brakes never really fade either right?

Answer:

There is a very definative answer to your question. If you will take your 911 to the track(for competition or just a fun weekend)-YES, If it will be used exclusively for street use-NO. They are very expensive so for track use you will take advantage of ceramic brakes 2 main benefits. First, as you mentioned, the reliable, fade free operation essential on the track and second the reduced unsprung weight does increase handling and stearing feel. If the 911 will be used for commuting or weekend driving(street use) you will only be paying for the bragging rights that you have ceramic brakes. Porsche is famous for amazing brakes, ceramic or not.
Early ceramic brake systems in Porsches had some problems. For a used car, depending on the year, I might be concerned. Replacement parts are extremely expensive. Stopping power is much more than adequate with standard porsche brakes, on the street or on the track, for most of us. I think the bling factor is there, and the novelty. Personally, I would not want to shell out the cash myself, unless I win the lottery.
Hi, ceramic brakes will probably outlast the car - they are very strong and are great for track use, but you're correct, they are overkill for daily driving. Ceramic brakes are showing up on Porsches and Corvettes these days, and many owners simply take them off and use traditional brakes as they are good enough, and much, much cheaper to fix if something goes wrong. Porsches have excellent brakes regardless of whether they are ceramic or not, so if you are looking, this is one option you can skip over. You'll never experience brake fade in normal driving with a Porsche.
