I was just wondering this since I come from Northern Ireland and in Belfast I think they're probably the most prominent landmark but are they actually famous and if you saw them would you know where they were?
The cranes are iconic in Belfast and Northern Ireland. The company itself is most famously known for the building of the Titanic they also specialize in off-shore construction as well. I would say they are well known in Ireland and in some parts of the UK. They are probably known a bit in England as they were very interested in Belfast's heavy industry in the past. I don't think many people outside of Ireland and the UK would know about the Harland and Wolff cranes tbh. You can see them from many places in Belfast and they are a prominent landmark.
Look them up on youtube you will see one crashing into another crane and knocking it over.
Harland and Wolff industries is famous. But not world famous. In fact, i had to just look them up on Wikipedia just to know who they were. But in terms of history, they are quite famous. They were the ones who made the famous RMS Titanic (you know, the ship that hit an iceberg on it's maiden voyage and sunk, there was a movie based on it starring Leonardo DiCaprio and it featured a mind-numbing song from Celine Dion) edit : idk what Harland Wolff cranes are? I was talking about Harland and Wolff industries located in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
