I heard somewhere that LCD monitors were no good for gaming. I've also heard that they good if your response time is 4ms or less.
Yes there are both good and bad monitors for gaming. Some monitors wash out when the colors are too dark and others introduce screen tearing. When you find a monitor you like search for reviews on it and see what other people think about it. See what they have to say about dark colors and if it tears during gameplay. DVI has a much sharper image than VGA does and most modern graphics cards have DVI outputs on them.
