Question:

are there pre-made, natural, skin-safe tie dyes? Safe enough for cloth diapers.?

I‘m throwing a baby sprinkle for my best friend. I found a fabulous shower game in which participants tie-dye onesies for the baby, which is soooo neat.the little guy would have a onesie from each person who loved him! Then I took it a step further.she is doing all cloth diapers. She‘s not an organic nazi or anything, but she does feed her kids natural foods and tries to avoid harmful chemicals when possible.she‘s doing a water-birth, but in a medical facility, co-sleeping with a supplemental bassinet.so she‘s idealistic while still being reasonable, but.we are talking about DIAPERS here. Does anyone know where I can purchase non-skin irritating dyes? All natural or organic would be nice, but are not the most important things.I want something I can put my hands in without them being irritated. So RIT is out. Also, no carcinogens/poisons, ect. I mean, of course salt or water a poison if you get too much, that‘s not what I mean by poison. I mean just non irritant.

Answer:

If you will be purchasing all cotton chinese or indian prefolds or cotton, hemp or bamboo fitteds then you will need fiber reactive dyes. Not generic stuff like RIT. Look at Dharma or Procion dyes.you will need to look into using a salt bath, soda ash and/or vinegar with the dye. If you are looking to dying some polyester for the diaper covers then you will dyes appropriate for synthetics. They are not natural by any meansbut good quality dyes. if you are looking for organic natural dyes then do some research on using food extractive pigments. Good luck!
