Question:

Asbestos ceiling tile?

Anyone know if that type of ceiling tile has asbestos? Unsure of the year built. It has a texture to it which is why I‘m worried about it.

Answer:

Like others have said it's imposable to tell without testing. Asbestos is very expensive to remove and the tile if left alone (kept sealed with paint) is safe.
No. That looks like just ordinary lay in ceiling tile. Texture is not really and indication of asbestos. Lots of things have texture that are not asbestos.
No way to be absolutely certain without examination. My guess is 95% that does not. Take a tile into a hardware store/home center and ask there. If they all look at you with confused looks, wait outside for a contractor or two to walk by and ask them. Handling asbestos isn't a death sentence. If unsure- wear a dust mask while handling the tile. It is the asbestos dust particles from it breaking up, that you breath in that could cause a problem (again- it's not guaranteed to harm you).
I'll stick my head out and say no that does not contain asbestos, it is a standard 600x600 mineral tile which you can still buy now. I am an asbestos consultant with 10 years experience and that type of tile would not usually be tested as it is well known not to contain asbestos. Ignore the answer which says take to a hardware store, if you ever did that with an asbestos ceiling tile you would probably end up causing yourself massive problems and exposing people.
I don't know that they made ceiling tile out of that but if your that worried then call a Professional to test it. That stuff will kill you don't take unnecessary chances.
