HiI am checking a 78 bandit trans am to buy it but it has a 4 speed automatic transmissionIs this a genuine transmission or not? Thanks
no four speed automatic in 78. GM's first four speed automatic was made in 82 so the four speed auto in it now is probably a 700-R4 which was added to the car at sometime. there was a four speed standard for that year and model
A 4 speed auto is a nice upgrade for a TA. I am guessing you will find a lot more things that aren't original. A 1978 TA will never be a collector car that needs to be 100% original.
most likely 2-4 grand depends really
I had a '84 Pontiac GP with a 4 speed automatic. That was the first year of that transmission. I special ordered my car with that transmission. That year, they considered that transmission to fail quite readily. Had no problems with it. It lasted 220,000 miles til the brake lines went on the car.
