Question:

Ballet dance floor??

So i want to make a mini dance studio/ gym in my garage. I am already getting floor mats for the gym equipment but flooring for my mini dance studio is too expensive. I was thinking, could I possibly use the same floor mats (which is regular shock absorbtion interlocking mats) but put some sort of vinyl tile flooring over the mats so I can turn and everything? Could this work? Has anyone tried this already?

Answer:

A dance floor has to be sprung in order to reduce impact on jumps and reduce the risk of you getting hurt. The more modern floors have a basketweave pattern under the surface. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sprung_floor I don't know if the mats will work or not, I haven't heard of anyone doing this.
This sounds like a good idea. You can by lamenated wood floor tiles that interlock just like the rubber ones. Thery're not too expensive. The only problem with laying the tile flooring is that if the tiles aren't all even you will have a hard time turning on the creases. If you do a good job laying the floors it should be fine.
