Does anyone know what the maximum is that a bank can charge for going over your overdraft,???? mine have just charged me ?30 but after threatening them they have refunded it. But they have said that the powers that be have set it at ?30 and they would charge me that next time.
yes i have heard that at some banks it is $33.00.highway robbery.best thing is to get protection. At some banks, you can have them dip into your savings to prevent this from happening and not be charged a huge fee
I don't believe there is a limitso long as you don't fix it. However, usually if you talk to a manager, they'll help you out. Just make sure to let them know how you're valuable to them. (I.E. I've been with this bank for 3 years and have only had one overdraft)
Banks can charge what ever they want for overdrafts, but they must disclose the amount you will pay for an overdraft up front when opening the account. Most are between $24 and $33 dollars. A local bank in my town is only $22 for an overdraft. Ask your bank about overdraft protection such as tying your savings account to your checking in case you overdraft. This only works if you leave a reasonable balance in your savings account.
They charge their own rates, but they tend to overcharge and put it down to administration, although this is never that amount. Check with your bank their policy and question why it is so expensive.
