Would you rather stay in a hotel, bed and breakfast, or resort while out of town? Why did you pick that facility?
Bed and breakfasts! They're much nicer than hotels (albeit more pricey, but totally worth it), and much cozier than resorts.
Bed and breakfast are adorable
I think it depends where you are going and what you would like to do. Cancun, Mexico=resort, England = Bed and Breakfast and hotel. Small quaint towns = bed and breakfast. We have stayed in hostels, too! Some are not too bad.
Save all the trouble when you are a tourist.
