Question:

Best type of material to make a mold out of for fiberglass?

I'm making the front bumper, rear bumper, front fenders separate from the rest of the body on separate molds, what material is best to make a mold out of for fiberglass?

Answer:

More fiber glass, after your plug is made, plug being the model of what you want to duplicate, right down to the glossy finish, this part should look exactly like what you want to come out of the mold, once accomplished this is sprayed with a release agent then gel coat, and several layers of fiber glass is layed down over that, normally if a large piece a frame will be needed to keep the finished mold rigid, 1x 1 lumber and expanding foam which is used for home insulation work well, dosent have to be real fancy as the foam will hold everything togeather, once cured flip it over and remove your plug from the mold, to duplicate the piece, its the same process, release agent, gel coat, fiber glass, if you take care of the mold you should get many copys, if you plan to make many more then dont throw away the plug if you plan to do this once then its far cheaper to just buy fiberglass fenders and bumpers.
With respect to the person above, a radiant decking barrier is a must in TexasIt definitely keeps the heat from penetrating through into the home which saves you money in reduced energy costsWhen a home is being built, you can tell the difference when standing under a home that has the radiant barrier and one that doesn'tThere are two versions- the decking material that's used when the house is being built, and the spray-on kind for already constructed homesIf you don't take my word for, take Tom Tynan'sThe fact is you need a radiant barrierThe radiant barrier is the only form of insulation that keeps the heat from getting in the atticAttic ventilators can only work after the heat entersWith a radiant barrier in your attic, it shouldn't be more than about 10 degrees hotter than the outside temperature in the afternoonOnce the sun goes down, the attic should reach the outside air temperature more quickly, and that's your ultimate goal-to have your attic temperature equal to that outside the house.
Radiant barriers do a little good at first but once they get covered with dust they are worthless(everything in an attic will eventually get covered in dust.) I would spend the money on extra insulation.
