Question:

Blanketing Equines in Winter?

We just acquired a 3 year old Mammoth Jack, geldingLike most Donkeys, he doesn't handle the cold as well as horses doHis winter coat is not very dense and he spends most of his time huddled in the run in shedSo, we bought him a blanketI've never blanketed any of my horses before, as their winter coats provide adequate protection from the coldI was just wondering, how long can you leave a blanket on a horse/donkey? I know if the temperature rises you should take it off to prevent over heating and that it should be washed regularly, but should you put it on at night and take it off in the morning or is it alright to leave it on him a couple of days providing it fits well and the temperature stays the same? It's a water-proof, all-purpose, turnout blanket.

Answer:

You can leave it on, as long as it fits him wellIt is sometimes difficult to find a blanket that will fitting completelyHowever if it isn't to long or too tight in the shoulders it should be fineIt may also start rubbing on the shoulders if this happens you can buy a shoulder guard to stop the blanket from rubbing all the hair offTo make sure its the correct length measure from the middle of your horse/donkey's chest and then back to the middle of their bum under their tailAlways go with a on size bigger if your horse/donkey falls in between sizesI not sure how much filling is in your blanket but that lets you know when you should take it offIf there is 300g+ I would take it off if the temp gets higher then zeroYou can also check but putting your hand under then blanket and as long as he is not sweating then he won't over heatFor cleaning it pick a warmer day unless you have two blankets because it does generally take more then a day to wash and dryUsually you would want to clean it 1-3 times a month!!!! Hope this helps!!!!
distracted dining will get you in trouble avoid eating in front of a television or in a movie theater as you re bound to consume more calories
Replace chips with salad to cut carbs
Having less than 1 200 calories a day may slow down your metabolism
I'm gonna go with the weight trainingSupplements can sometimes be effective but are rarely needed if the diet is balanced and of good qualityObviously though, you need fiber and it probably doesn't hurt to get it from a supplement as opposed to foodGreat job and I probably don't need to tell you to keep it up.
