I tried to bleed my gas boiler this morning and I think I must have done something wrong. I opened a spigot on the return-pipes for each of the three zones. Not much water came out - a gallon per zone maybe. Then the water stopped coming out altogether. Now all three zones aren't functioning. The pressure release valve keeps opening and releasing a lot of steam - indicating there's a lot of air in there, right? The pressure gauge on the furnace is at zero psi but the temperature is at about 210. I understand the automatic fill valve is supposed to automatically add water to the system as needed. Maybe that's not working. Any ideas? Thanks!
TURN OFF THE BOILER NOW your boiler is not getting any water and when you finally cook all the water that's left you will crack the boiler which will cost you 5k to 10k depending on it's size
i won't be able to say for confident on your rads. yet frequently definite they are on the dazzling. it commonly sounds like a cap u can turn, in specific circumstances they are tiny plastic, and others little extra advantageous steel.. only get a bucket and carry it next to the bleeder, while u turn it to losen it, it opens somewhat hollow. it may spit out air while first open, then water starts popping out, enable it go into the bucket for a jiffy to make confident all the air is out. ya it sucks paying somebody to bleed ur rads $250 while u can do it your self, only confirm you come across out the place ur bleeder is.
you don't bleed boilers, only radiators, if it's a pressure system with a gauge on the boiler then usually the refilling is manual, an automatic repressurization system would be very expensive, the boiler is supposed to shut off at low pressures you may have a filling circuit with a valve at either end connected to the boiler
the auto feeds are notorious for not feeding properly after only a few years, i hope you didn't crack or damage your boiler, if you can disconnect the auto-feed to see if its working or pull the lever on top to hear water. They have a screen which may be clogged. try to get the psi back up tp 15 or so. always check psi as you bleed each loop keep it at 15 for best results
