Question:

Blocking in knitting?

Making a sweater and found out about blocking and was wondering if I have to block every time i wash my projectThanks.

Answer:

might be easier to use the blow in kind, then just patch the holes made to blow it in from the top
just wear long sleeves and gloves, push it up as far as you can then use a yard stick or something to get it the rest of the way no need to take out more drywall
There are usually fire blocks between the studs so you may have difficulty sliding the batts up into the wallsIf you have the drywall off of the lower portion you could use a flashlight to look up to see if it is clear.
In the olden days all knitting yarn was wool and mostly done in stocking stitchThe appearance of the fabric produced was improved by blockingIt made the work smoother and more professional lookingModern man made textured fabrics are not improved by blockingIn fact blocking can destroy the texture of the yarnI never block my hand knitting and regularly receive compliments and requests to knit for friends so I must be doing something rightIf you do decide to block a fabric it is only done once before making up the garmentAfter washing lay flat and allow to dry naturally.
