Question:

Blood clotting agent that comes in a small plastic tube?

Long story short, I cut my thumb open with a knife and a trainer had to care for it. She had a small plastic tube that she cracked and squeezed on my thumb to stop the bleeding. It was a very thick brown (iodine colored) substance that stung but was VERY effective in stopping the bleeding immediately. Does anybody know what this tube or substance could be? I asked her and she didn't know what the brand was or what it was called. This is driving me crazy, so any and all help would be appreciated.

Answer:

It is probably similar to a Cederroth blood stopper dressing. It contains crystals that form a gel when in contact with blood, thus producing a gel plug.
