Even if the batteries are new this mean they are`nt powerful enough to power the smoke detector. That beeping sound is a warning that u need to replace the batteries. Some are new but literally they are old depends on how long they set in a hot environment.Hot environments drains 1/2 of the batteries power. This is why your new batteries are beeping.Replace them again ASAP.
I'd try buying another new battery for it. Your new battery might have lost its power sitting around. If it still beeps, then I'd toss it, might be a warning system that something is malfunctioning. But I'm sure you know that a quick beep every minute means low battery.
maybe your bf changed his mind and took it to a pawn shop
If this is a 120 volt system, then I suspect you have a power problem to the front room. Take the unit down and check the batteries, are they in the correct way, was the interlock engaged? Next check for the proper voltage in the connector with an analog tester and be certain the connector is locked in to the detector. If the problem had moved from one room to another, I would tell you to replace the unit, since it has died.
