An intake adds maybe 7 hp at most 10. You won't notice a significant difference. Depending on the set up you may not be able to hear or feel a difference. What kind of CAI is it?
I thought the people on the internet have learned by now that cold air intake systems are a joke. Plain and simple. Some cars usually very old cars can benefit from a new kind of intake but thoes car that can are few and far between. cold air systems only benefits are it looks cooler to some people and since they are so flimsy you can hear a air rushing noise thru the walls of the cheap tubes. The KN filters and similar are NOT good for this car. The oil thats in the filter eventually makes it way up the tube into the MAS and gunk it up can cause all sorts of drive-ability and run-ability issues.
I work at a BMW dealership and was at one time a service writer. The reason you are not feeling any enhanced performance is that the stock BMW air intake system is pretty efficient as it is, so you really didn't improve it very much by going to an aftermarket system. A couple of HP maybe, but don't believe the claims you see for 7 - 10 HP. You might get that much on a car with a more restrictive system, but BMW's are pretty well set up at the factory. FYI: I own a Corvette, and the same thing applies there. Everyone wants to run out and get a CAI when they get a Vette because it's a relatively cheap modification. But, the Corvette intake is pretty high-flow as is, so you really get almost improvement by changing it out.
