Question:

Burned carpet??

I have carpeting that I just got in December of 07 and in a rush yesterday, left my hair straightener turned on setting on my carpet! I got home and notice it was still on and it has scorched my brand new carpet!!!! So stupid, I know! Its a small spot, but its now brown and my carpet is very light tan mix so it shows well. Is there anything that I can do to bring the color back or at least make it look a little less obvious without replacing the carpet?

Answer:

if the carpet is new you wouldn't be able to tell if i put a patch you can only tell if the carpet is old it shouldn't be more then 100 dollars to have someone come in and replace it
My ex-wife works in a real-estate type business. It really depends on where the burn mark is (traffic area etc). I know some carpet places will actually cut a section of carpet out totally and refit another piece cut from a different area, like a walk in robe or closet. I have seen the repair jobs done by a PROFESSIONAL and you cant tell the difference. I know this wont help you if you don't have an area to sacrifice another piece. Your carpet being new could be a benefit (off cuts or a new piece from the company who supplied it) Hope I helped, just throwing options out there for ya. Cheers
Nope, once the carpet is burned you are screwed. Sorry, I have had personal experience with this! I set a pot of burning popcorn on my carpet (don't ask, please) and it melted the fibers in the carpet so there was nothing I could do about it.
Well depending on how deep this scorch is try a little peroxide to lighten it. If there is any hard places then of course rub that burned stuff off first. This may not work, but you have to do some type of bleaching to lighten just like hair.
You can fix it. The repair is called a carpet patch. What is done is the burned area will be cut out completely so all you see is the carpet padding. Then you take a piece of carpet from a closet and cut it to fit the hole, Then glue it in. It is more complicated than that of course, but it can be done. Some carpet cleaners can do it or an installer can do it but ask if they have done them before. Note: if the carpet in the damaged area is worn you will have a visible difference between the worn carpet and the new carpet, but it should look better than a burn.
