Question:

Buying a new bed?

I have been having back pains and tossing and turning at night. I have had my bed for about 4 years. Do I need to get a new bed? What type is the best? I like firm beds.

Answer:

go to a place that sell all kinds of beds try them all till you find the right one
your bed is either worn out so you should probably get one that will support your back. ask your doctor which will best suit you and the price
A firm mattress. If you have a double mattress set up, stick a sheet of plywood between them that firms it up some. I got a waterbed with a heater. For years never had a back problem.
Was your bed brand new when you bought it? The life expectancy of a bed is 10 + years. Your bed could be too firm or not firm enough. If you still think you need a new bed then look in the phone book for a local bed dealer and call them and see what they have to offer.
Either your bed is not the correct softness/firmness or you may have real back problems. Many chiropractors offer a free test....they will hold a metal probe on your back and go from the neck to the bottom of your spine, this will test your muscle and tell if you have pull in your muscles. I was having problems with my neck, didn't tell the chiropractor assistant at the fair (offering the free screenings) and the screen showed that my neck was way out of wack. If you do get a new bed, I don't recomend the posture pedic that everyone raves about.....I don't sleep as well with mine and will never buy another one.
