Cole, A sport bike of that size can easily kill a novice rider. You really need to keep that in mind when getting a motorcycle because it can and does happen. You should sign up for an MSF course (motorcycle safety course) because it will teach you how to ride properly and perhaps save your life. If nothing else, ALWAYS remember to use even pressure on both brakes because that is how you stop properly. If the front tire is bald he was definitely speeding on the bike (because of heavy braking). How does the rear tire look? Has the bike been sitting for a long time? Why is the battery dead? When was it last replaced? Personally, I would be careful if the battery is dead because it could mean a couple of things. Specifically, the bike may not be charging the battery or it could have some other type of electrical problem. See if the guy would let you take it to a local dealership to check it out or have him bring it there with you. You might have to offer to pay for it but it could really mean a lot less headache for you if it turns out to be a lemon. Be Careful and have fun. Personally, Id like to thank you for patriotism by joining the marines. God Bless
Worn tires and trashed sprockets/chains are absolutely normal when buying a cheap used bike. I'd recommend having atleast a grand extra to throw into the bike once you get it. Don't just look at fairings, as these can be cheaply replaced by OKorder or higher quality absfairings.
