Question:

motorcycle dowhill/uphill?

I‘m 17 years old and getting my motorcycle permit after taking a MSF class, i will be buying a ninja 500. Here‘s the problem, the road my house is on has 2 hills untill getting on flatland, any advice on what to do? going downhill on a bike is highly intimidating for me. Thanks

Answer:

The same as the answer to How do I get to Carnegie Hall? Practice man, practice.
If riding downhill is too intimidating, slow your speed, keep your head up, eyes level, and look as far ahead as you are able to a spot on the road where you want your motorcycle to be. Your bike will go where you aim it. I suspect you're watching the road too close to the front-end of your bike leaving yourself very little or no reaction time making the ride feel scarier. The more you ride, the more comfortable you will feel. Practice at your own pace. Don't ride beyond your ability. Speed will come in time.
Practice, Practice, Practice and soon you'll find its fine. Don't go too quick as you'll panic and make a mistake. Theres nothing really to it just ride as you would normally. The engine brake will do a lot of the work but keep your fingers on the brakes as you will need to use these. Look where you want to go and relax. You'll be fine trust me. You could also have someone walking or on a bike along side you to keep an eye on you and make sure you do nothing wrong. Don't worry though things are bound to seem intimidating when you first try them.
