Question:

Can a bad transmission damage the engine?

I have a Chrysler lhs with a transmission going bad but the engine runs smooth but when the transmission gets hot the engine give me low power and low rpm in high speeds. So can really the transmission make the engine to go bad?

Answer:

Gotta define your terms. Go bad can mean blow up in five seconds or wear the motor out 100,000 miles sooner. If your transmission is having issues, less power is going to the wheels, so if you drive like that, you have to use more gas to get somewhere. That makes the motor work a bit harder, which will surely make it wear out sooner. How much sooner? Can't tell, since we have no way of knowing how bad the transmission is. Best bet- don't drive with a bad transmission, at least not farther than a good transmission shop. If the transmission blows up, your motor will likely be all right, though you'll become an instant pedestrian. Better to just get it fixed. . Take care!!
yes like going fo said it will kill your car totally ! PUT out the money get that trans repaired properly ! OR get a used one at the yards installed still goone cost you about two thou ! rebuilt trans around $1500
