Question:

can a cold air intake cause an improper air/fuel mixture?

i was reading in import tuner how some intakes cause an abnormally rich mixture on the 350z. i was wondering if this could happen on my scion tc. i have a fujita cold air intake, would a short ram air make any difference? im getting a vented hood too, would i benefit from having a short ram right by the vent?

Answer:

ok well this explains the other question of yours i answered. and Mad Jack, wow, all that is common sense anyways, yes a cold air intake can cause problems, but very minimal on the tC. every car is different, you read abou the Z, im gonna use the Civic Si as an example. if you throw on a cold air intake, and cat back exhaust, believe it or not, it makes the engine run extremly lean, doesnt do no more than 3ft lbs tq increase, and 15whp, from both mods, and kills the engine little by little. the Si needs Hondata Flashpro to correct it. as for the tC, we dont have a high compression ratio to began with so there shouldnt really be a problem. especially since there are people that have a stage 0 turbo kit not tuned, no fuel system upgrades, and theres run fine. so i dont think the intake has anything to do with it. short ram puts the filter closer to the engine, the further away the cooler the air. and since a cold air intake is a long intake, it gets frsher air, from the wind i measured my intake tempertature, through use of my iPone and a APP as well as a OBD II hook up, and out side temp was 67 degrees F and it was a rainy day. the intake temp was 71 degrees F. i have stock intake, and a KN filter, and i dont have the snorkel so a 4 degree temp difference just sows that the engine heat gets to it. but this is a real tough predicament youre in. you can go to a tuning shop and get it checked (A/F ratio)
Makes it so you can have all 4 tires turning at once instead of one on one side and one on the other

If you don't know you don't need it.
