Don is correct. To add to what he said, the easiest way to tell if the windows are wired to the alarm panel is to test it. Set the alarm, wait until it is armed (usually after a 30, 45 or 60 second delay), then open a downstairs window and see if it sets the alarm off. Test each window the same way. NOTE: If your alarm is monitored - please call the Alarm Monitoring Center FIRST and tell them that you are performing an alarm system test. If opening one window sets off the alarm - then it is likely that all of the windows on that circuit will also work, since the window circuit is usually called the perimeter loop, which is a single closed loop. In essence, each window is wired in series with the next window and the next window and so on. If the magnetic (or reed) switch in any one of the windows were open - the entire circuit would be disabled, and none of the windows would set off the alarm when opened. Does the alarm control panel show Green or Normal when the alarm is off (not armed)? If so - it is not detecting an open alarm circuit. If it shows a yellow light or a zone number, then it is detecting a malfunction or failure, which would then need to be corrected.
Did you catch it on video? If so, then contact the police. If not, can you give a good description of the vehicle or occupant? Even if you can't, if it makes you feel better, go ahead and contact the police, and tell them you saw something suspicious in your neighborhood, it won't hurt. Meanwhile, leave your outside lights on, keep the doors and windows locked, make sure you have your phone handy, and keep the dog inside with you. Chances are you and your cousin will be just fine. Often fear is really our worst enemy.
