Question:

Can a pre-teen son pull a fire alarm in a fire?

Can a pre-teen son who saw a fire could ask their mom if he could go and pull the fire alarm? Could he ask his mother go with him to help him if necessary? If the handle did not go down the first time if it wasn't pulled hard enough due to stress could the mother pull the handle with her son a second time to make sure the handle stays down even if the son was smart and he needed some help to make sure it works.Would the son read the directions again to be sure he did not forget anything or could the mom help their son with keeping his balance if he has to break the glass. What would the mother say when the son is pulling the handle or breaking the glass?

Answer:

What you see is the alarm circuit and the magnetic closure device. Depending on how its wired it can be normally open or probably normally closed. When you cut the wire it open s the circuit assuming its the latter one. The only way to disable it is to disable the circuit thru the programming. you can only bypass it with a magnet to hold the alarm device in its normally closed position. Without explaining further thats what will happen unless your alarm can be unplugged that might mean two power sources and assuming its not hooked to an outside alarm company that monitors the disconnect thru a phone line . So complicated but simple. Don't mess with it and you wont have to worry but if it needs replaced call a service techinician. Normally not an electrician silly, an alarm technician is an electronics technician.
It is almost certain to set off the alarm. Most have anti-tampering circuits in them.
In most simple alarm installations, cutting that wire will trigger the alarm.
Almost all home and small business alarm systems have contacts for normally open and normally closed circuits. The installer will wire the devices to the correct contacts as needed. If the door switch is wired in the NO circuit, it will not activate the system if the wire is cut.Normally a door or window switch will be wired in a NC configuration and several devices will be wired in series. Cutting the wire in this instance will activate the alarm. Most motion detectors and infra red devices will be connected to the NO circuit.
