Question:

Can a rear loader garbage truck collect a 52 inch big screen tv?

I have a broken big screen that needs to be thrown out. Can it be collected in a garbage truck?

Answer:

Haha. I'm sorry, I just read the title of the question and thought that some woman was throwing out her husband's TV. You might have to take it yourself to the dump since the garbage men don't lift oversize objects.
Can a hydraulic loader handle it? Yes. However, most sanitation companies don't pick them up. Actually, TV screens and monitor screens have been labled hazardous waste, at least in the state of California. There is an additional charge at dumping sites, determined by the inch of screen. Personally, I believe this is nothing more than a scam. These screens have been around for a long time. Why are they now Haz-Mat? Because everyone upgrades, sooner or later, and state officials have figured out a way to tap into that particular market.
