Answer:

Lane splitting is actually pretty stupid for a newbie rider. When you come up between two vehicles, you have no idea if both drivers see you. If traffic suddenly surges forward, and one vehicle drifts a little in the lane, you are in a very dangerous position. In California, it is legal to lane-split, but, if there is an accident, it will likely be judged a comparative fault, meaning the biker will likely be judged at least partly at fault, and have any damage recovery reduced. As far as parking in supermarket lots goes, a motorcycle is bound by the same parking rules as a car. You park it in a parking spot. Someone who parks their cycle up by the door is not only breaking the law, but is being grossly disrespectful to every body else. They are deserving of the same slap upside the head as ablebodied persons who park in handicapped spots.
don't try to do it without help from an experienced friend, take a motorcycle safety course before you go on the street practice in a pasture or parking lot whatevers available to you, wear heavy jeans. if you practice on pavement wear a leather jacket a helmet. you can do it its easier than learning to walk you did that. its just unfamiliar at first but it will come to you quickly dont give up. have fun!
Riding a Motorcycle is a great responsibility. You need to look the part as well as know how to ride. Motorcycles represent Freedom and individuality. So in your quest for freedom, you may violate the rights of others with loud exhaust pipes. For individuality you will fall into the mediocrity of looking like everyone else. Your going to need a costume: most bikers like the Village People look of leathers. Gay bars may give you a fair idea for biker clothing. Also patches for your vest and stickers for your helmet. Mostly macho biker slogans. You may want to join a gang/club in order to boost your self esteem. Tattoos are a big help, but you need to get the right ones. Many posers use water based tats or tattoo sleeves to look the part. If someone ask you a question and if you know the answer or not.reply: If you need to ask, you'll never understand. Why really bother riding. Just get a bike, trailer it to events and pose by it all day. You'll fit in with many of the biker group. I'm being satirical: Check with your DMV they may point you to proper safety classes. Ride safe/ ride quiet / ride respected. Check on line for schools in your area.
Items of advice. There are two major dangers in lane splitting. One is common sense the other one is not. 1)Common sense The second most dangerous time to lane split is when traffic is moving around 30-35 miles per hour. It is still legal then but people like to jockey lanes and if you take a hit you are still going fast enough to get hurt. 2)Not so Common sense The most dangerous time to lane split is when traffic comes to a dead halt. There are always a couple of people who want to see what is going on up ahead so they open their door and step out to get a better look. Guess where their door is?
