Question:

Can anyone help to explain why the copper in my regulator kept getting burnt?

I am using a voltage regulator to heat a Nichrome wire. I need it to bend a plexiglass/acrylic sheet. However, after I bent a few sheets, the copper wire inside the regulator was burnt. I bought another regulator and it gave the same outcome. Can anyone help to explain why? And what do I need to do to avoid the same income?

Answer:

BECAUSE THE REGULATOR CANNOT STAND THE HIGH CURRENT DRAINED BY THE NICHROME WIRE THAT MIGHT TAKE A FEW AMPERES DEPENDING ON ITS SIZE. SOLUTIONS: [1] PARALLEL SOME MORE SAME REGULATORS TOGETHER TO INCREASE THE CURRENT RATE. [2] LET THE REGULATOR TO DRIVE ANOTHER HIGH POWER TRANSISTOR. SUPPOSE THE REGULATOR HAS MAXINUM 1A RATE, LET IT DRIVES ANOTHER TRANSISTOR THAT HAS 10A RATE. THIS WAY, IT CAN SUPPORT 10A CURRENT. TO SUPPORT 20A, PARALLEL TWO TRANSISTORS TOGETHER. [3] CHANGE THE REGULATOR INTO ANOTHER HIGH CURRENT RATE TYPE AND MAKE SURE MOUNT IT INTO A VERY LARGE PIECE OF HEAT SINK OR ADD A COOLING FAN TO IT. [4] REDO THE HEATING CURRENT SOURCE, HEATING A NICHROME WIRE DOES NOT NEED PURE DC POWER SOURCE, ANY LOW VOLTAGE HIGH CURRENT TRANSFORMER CAN POWER THE HEATER VERY WELL. TO CONTROL THE AC, MAKE A SIMPLE CONTROL CIRCUIT WITH TRIAC.
The first guy's got the right idea. Keep your eyes and ears open for fun things said in shows, radios, magazine, classes, etc. Just random, 2 or 3-worded phrases can sound really cool. For example, 30 Seconds to Mars. I dunno, just really random and awesome-sounding in my opinion. Or Alibi Revival. That's my friend's band. It came across in a show, I beleive.
