I'm wanting to add insulation to the exterior walls of my house, one company told me that blown insulation told me that they couldn't blow in any insulation unless I took off all my drywall, because the new insulation wouldn't go around the oldAnother company told me that they could do this without taking down the wallsMy question is who's right, if I hire somebody to do this I want to make sure that my new insulation is installed wellThanks in advance.

What type of insulation exists in the walls? That lil detail is important in determining which, if any, co is blowing smoke EDIT The only way to blow insulation 'around' existing batt insulation is if there are voids (channels) connecting to the holes cut for the blower hose (really think they'd be that lucky?) or if enough pressure is generated by the insulation blower to COMPRESS the existing insulation to allow passage of the blown in insulationLast I checked, insulation gets its insulating properties from dead air SPACES not the insulating value of the insulation material itselfAll other things being equal, I'd go w/the folks that said the wall covering must come off where there's existing batt insulation.
