You could always buy him a special helmet with a face gaurd similar to a football helmet or the masks some players use in hockey especially college hockey. However, this will be the first step in over protecting your kid and turning them into a loser. Teach him how to keep his glove up and ready for the ball. I doubt anyone is hitting it hard enough or throwing hard enough to cause any actual damage to your kid though. My advice is to let him get nicked up. Its part of the fun of sports when your a kid. Overprotecting him with ridiculous helmets is going to do more damage to the poor kids self-esteem than any baseball thrown or hit by a 5 year old could ever do to his face.
Rollerblading up hill in my opinion is one of the best exercise s out there. I rollerblade in a scenic park on the water and my hill is about a 45 degree hill that takes about 30 seconds to climb at full speed. I then skake about 100 feet of flat surface coming off the hill then it leads into a 15- 20 degree hill. I do this between 10 and 14 times.. It is unbelievable for your legs (uses almost every muscle in your legs, especially your thighs, hamstrings and butt) core and cardio. I feel great after my skate and the benefits to your body will be incredible.
