Question:

Can I connect a front loader washing machine to the bathroom sink?

The bathroom sink has a single spout, so we would only connect the cold water hose. The unit we are moving to does not have laundry taps, hence this question. If need be we can drain the washing machine into buckets. Does anyone know if it is safe to connect the washing machine to bathroom taps?

Answer:

If the sink or tub faucet has the threaded spout you sure can! years ago when I lived in an apartment I did!Just attach a Y fitting to the spout and connect both washer hoses to that. And you can drain it into the bathtub too. Just remember the drain hose must be in an upright position. attach it with some plumbing strap to the back of the machine, then I took a garden hose and connected it to the drain hose ( i bought one of those brass fittings used to replace the end of the garden hose and a clamp, i don't know what the name of the clamp is but it's like a smaller version of the clamp that holds the vent pipe onto the back of the dryer, then I slid the non threaded end of the brass fitting into the washer drain hose and tightened the clamp around the washer drain hose and the brass fitting and screwed the garden hose onto that and let the machine drain into the bath tub. just make sure you have a lint trap over your bat tub drain hole. Now I live in my own house and have regular w/d hookups buti stiil use the garden hose to drain the machine. I run my garden hose outside to water the trees! Here in Texas you just don't waste water!
That should be ok but you will need to see where the drain hose is going to go. On some machines running the drain hose into the bathtub will work ok, The bathtub has enough capacity that it wont overflow . It may take a while to fill and you rinse cycle may be a bit weak. You will need to watch that a friction fit hose doesnt come off the faucet when the machine closes its water valve .
Bathroom Sink Connections
You'll need to buy new taps, you can buy a combo one that has the threaded section for attaching the washer hose to and a standard tap that you can still use for washing your hands in the sink. Check out your local hardware or plumbing suppliers. Drain the machine into the bathtub or run the hose down the floor drain, the cover should be able to be removed for this. Buckets would be a pain, you would have to be constantly on hand to prevent any flooding.
First off, I cannot even fathom what these other 2 people are saying to you..... IT IS NOT viable to use a bathroom faucet. The fittings are not correct in any respect. Your best bet would be to either (a.) have someone hook up a hot & cold line in the room that your washer is in, or(b.) if possible, you could use a garden hose through a window from outside, that could connect directly to your washer. Now as for your drainage--- the bathtub could be used, however to prevent a flood, you need to have the drain hose in an upright position during the wash & rinse cycles. This keeps the water from syphoning out. Is there anyway possible that you could house this washer outside, say on a porch or patio? That would make hookups and draining alot easier for you in the long run, that is if you cannot get regular hookups inside the house. . . Hope this answer gives you some insight!
