I was told there are cracks and I have elevated levels of CO. I have no money please help so I can get this fixed.
Sure, you can get it repaired; you may have to pay to have the heat exchanger replaced, however. Papaw
No. It is expensive to replace the heat exchanger. It is usually better to replace the entire furnace than to spend that much money fixing an old furnace. Sorry that you don't have any money. I can't help you there.
Carrier and a few other brands actually have a 20 year parts warranty on only the heat exchangers.there is limited part availability on some brands and the bonnet and furnace other than exchanger has to be in good working order.don't run it in heat!!!!!.......do some research ....you've got it professionally diagnosed I assume...some can be repaired but I highly do not recommend it...
Yes you can replace just the heat exchanger. But I would not waste my time unless it is a package unit. If it is a furnace with a coil on top, then replacing the furnace is only a couple of hundred more and you have a new system with a new warranty. Probably better efficiency too so it will save on fuel costs.
You do understand that if you use a furnace with a cracked heat exchanger you could DIE right? <--- no joke. If there is no warranty left on your current furnace, you need a new furnace, there is no way around it. Not too sure where you live, but in my area there are companies offering rental furnaces. I think it's $30 a month or something. Call around to some HVAC companies and see if they have any info on it. In my area, the company that rents furnaces is the same company that rents hot water tanks.
